The Painted Hall at the Old Royal Naval College is one of the most iconic event spaces in London. As a historic Grade I listed site, it offers a stunning backdrop but also presents significant technical challenges, particularly when it comes to reliable internet connectivity and multi location streaming. For this project, First Event required a streaming partner who could deliver stable, broadcast quality live streams across two active rooms, reach online audiences via web and social channels, and support additional streamed content on site.
Stream7 were appointed to deliver high quality broadcast streaming, resilient connectivity solutions and an on site streaming setup within the venue.
To ensure the live streams met broadcast standards, we deployed a full 4K camera chain with long range lenses. This allowed us to capture the scale and detail of the Painted Hall and its adjoining spaces while maintaining consistent image quality for live and recorded streams.
Our team managed the live streaming across two rooms simultaneously, ensuring matched visuals, synchronised audio and a consistent viewer experience throughout. This approach gave First Event confidence that both spaces could be streamed reliably, despite the constraints of working within a historic building.
The live streams were delivered directly to the client website and selected social media channels, extending the reach of the event far beyond the venue.
Internet connectivity was one of the biggest challenges on this project. As a listed heritage venue, the Painted Hall has limitations around existing infrastructure, with WiFi and hardwired connections proving unpredictable and inconsistent.
To overcome this, we supplied and managed a bonded internet solution, combining multiple data connections into a single, resilient stream. Our team worked on site to test, adapt and implement workarounds in real time, ensuring a stable connection could be maintained throughout the event.
This approach was critical to the success of the live streams, removing the risk of dropouts and providing the reliability required for broadcast quality delivery across both rooms.
Alongside the main event streams, First Event wanted to capture additional long form content on site. We set up a dedicated streaming space within the venue to support high quality video podcast recordings.
This allowed speakers to move seamlessly from the main event into a controlled streaming environment, capturing content efficiently while maintaining consistent audio and visual quality. The recordings were streamed and captured ready for post production and future release.
This project highlighted the strength of collaboration between Stream7 and First Event. From early planning through to on site delivery, our teams worked closely to assess connectivity risks, design the streaming workflow and implement practical solutions that respected the venue’s restrictions.
By combining First Event’s event management expertise with our specialist streaming and connectivity knowledge, we were able to deliver a smooth experience for both in room and online audiences.
The event delivered a high quality hybrid experience, supported by stable live streams, resilient internet connectivity and multi location coverage. Despite the challenges of a historic building, the streaming ran seamlessly, ensuring online audiences received a reliable, broadcast standard experience.
