About Project
Taking a Festival Hybrid

Greenbelt Festival is a multi-arts festival that takes place annually over the August Bank Holiday weekend. The festival's mission is to create spaces where art, faith, and justice collide, and it's open to everyone, regardless of ethnicity, gender, religion, sexuality, disability, or background.

The festival's values include meeting artistry with activism, meeting the secular with the spiritual, meeting politics with positivity, and being inclusive and accepting of all. The festival features music, comedy, craft, theater, dance, food, spirituality, talks, and provocation.

The 2024 Greenbelt Festival took place from Thursday, August 22–Sunday, August 25 at Boughton House, near Kettering.

Stream7 were asked to do the event production for the No Fly Zone - a brand new venue with brilliant AV and reliable broadband so that guests from other countries can join those on stage at the festival and the event can be live streamed to those who cannot join the festival in-person. The proposal was to make the festival a hybrid event using our expertise.

Solution
Breaking Boundaries

Stream7 took a dedicated team of skilled event technicians and fully equipped the No Fly Zone tent at the festival with state-of-the-art broadband and high-quality audiovisual (AV) systems, ensuring that every aspect of the hybrid event was flawless for both speakers and visitors alike. The team’s meticulous attention to detail meant that anyone participating, whether presenting or attending, could do so with confidence, supported by the very best technology available. This cutting-edge setup enabled seamless connections between the virtual and physical worlds, breaking down traditional boundaries and creating an environment where performances and interactions could transcend the limitations of location.

For virtual performers, the advanced technology ensured that their presentations were delivered smoothly and with impeccable clarity, making them feel as though they were in the same room as their audience. Virtual attendees enjoyed a similarly high-quality experience, with crisp visuals and clear audio that made them feel fully immersed in the event, despite the distance. Meanwhile, those who were physically present in the tent were treated to an exceptional experience. They could watch presenters live-streamed from across the globe in a broadcast that matched TV-quality standards, showcasing the power of professional event broadcasting.

The No Fly Zone tent, transformed by Stream7’s efforts, became a hub of innovation and connection at the festival, where the boundaries between the virtual and physical were not just blurred but completely erased. This allowed for a richer, more inclusive experience for everyone involved, making the festival a standout example of how hybrid events and advanced technology can enhance and elevate the way we connect and communicate across distances.

Outcome
Sustainable Hybrid Solution

All of these efforts by Stream7 resulted in a seamless and innovative event, even in the face of the severe storm that hit the UK. By leveraging advanced technology and our expert experience, they ensured that the experience was consistent and high-quality for both in-person and virtual attendees, regardless of the weather. This achievement not only demonstrated the potential of hybrid events but also showcased a forward-thinking approach to event management that addresses sustainability concerns.

By enabling high-quality virtual participation, Stream7 effectively reduced the need for attendees to fly to the festival, significantly lowering the event’s carbon footprint. This not only solved a critical sustainability issue but also set a new standard for how events and festivals can be conducted in a more environmentally conscious manner. The event’s success is a brilliant example of how hybrid events can work for any event, regardless of size or sector, by bridging the gap between physical and virtual participation. This approach not only enhances accessibility and inclusivity but also contributes to a more sustainable future for the events industry, demonstrating that with the right technology and expertise, the boundaries of traditional events can be redefined for the better.
