2025
In March 2025, Stream7 proudly took part in Get up to Speed with STEM as the event's Gold Sponsor. Held at the iconic Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham on 19 and 20 March, the two-day event brought together thousands of students, educators, employers, and innovators to inspire the next generation of engineers, scientists, and digital pioneers. As a key player in the event production and content creation sector, Stream7 played multiple roles across the event – from running full production in the main presentation hall to hosting a hands-on challenge on our interactive exhibition stand.
This case study outlines our involvement in Get up to Speed with STEM 2025, which is organised by The Work-wise Foundation, and highlights the impact we had both behind the scenes and front of house.
The Big Hall at Magna served as the main stage for a packed programme of engaging speakers and interactive demonstrations. Stream7 was tasked with designing and delivering full-scale event production, which included staging, lighting, audio, and overall technical management.
The centrepiece was a fully custom stage backdrop constructed using our modular Tecna system – the same system we use at many corporate and public events for high-impact branding and AV integration. This clean and adaptable backdrop allowed us to maintain a professional aesthetic while accommodating multiple content formats, from keynote talks to practical science demos.
Lighting design was carefully curated to enhance the energy of the event while maintaining visibility for cameras and live audiences alike. Our rigging and audio teams ensured seamless transitions between acts and consistently clear sound throughout the day.
We also provided full stage management support, ensuring that presenters had everything they needed and that timing remained on track across both days.
The stage programme at Get up to Speed 2025 was packed with high-energy, inspiring and educational acts – each designed to engage young audiences and bring STEM careers to life in creative ways. Stream7's full production support helped bring these moments to the forefront, with our team ensuring each performance and demonstration looked and sounded its best.
Highlights from the main stage included:
It was a vibrant and varied schedule, and our production team ensured each act had the technical setup needed to run smoothly and leave a lasting impression.
While production kept our team busy in the Big Hall, our exhibition stand in the main floor area was a hive of activity, too.
Designed to give students a fun hands-on challenge and highlight the tech behind our event setups, we launched the Tecna Speed Cube Challenge – an interactive cube-building contest using our Tecna frame system.
Over the course of the event, more than 100 students took part, racing to construct the fastest cube using the modular components. The challenge was not only a showcase of creativity and hands-on problem solving, but also a way for students to learn more about how structures like stages, backdrops and branded installations are built in live event settings.
After a fierce two days of competition, the winning time came from Charlotte, a student from High Storrs School, who completed the challenge in just 44.317 seconds.
Following the event, Stream7 visited High Storrs School to award Charlotte with her prize – a brand-new drone – and personally congratulate her on her achievement.
“It was brilliant to be part of Get up to Speed at Magna this year, and even better to see over 100 students take on our Tecna Speed Cube challenge. Huge congratulations to Charlotte from High Storrs School for completing it in just 44.317 seconds – an impressively quick time! The challenge was designed as a bit of fun to showcase some of the kit we use at Stream7 for building backdrops at live events, and Charlotte absolutely smashed it. A personal highlight for me was visiting High Storrs afterwards – as a former student myself, it was a proud full-circle moment. Thanks for having us and well done again, Charlotte!” - Darren Wain, Managing Director, Stream7
The challenge brought a playful energy to the stand while also serving as a brilliant conversation starter with students, teachers, and other exhibitors alike.
This year marked a milestone for Get up to Speed with STEM – its 15th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the event hosted a special evening celebration with invited guests, sponsors, and partners.
Stream7 was asked to produce the event, ensuring that the evening was as polished and engaging as the daytime programme.
Our team set the stage for a relaxed yet professional atmosphere, incorporating ambient lighting and audio for speeches, background music, and live performance. A local singer provided live entertainment, helping to close the day with style.
As with everything we do, our approach was to make the event feel seamless for the organisers and enjoyable for the attendees – ensuring that all technical elements enhanced the experience without distracting from it.
Our gold sponsorship of Get up to Speed with STEM wasn’t just about visibility. It was about using our skills and resources to contribute meaningfully to an event that aligns closely with our values – especially in promoting STEM to young people.
By combining hands-on engagement, high-quality technical production, and post-event follow-up, we aimed to give students memorable experiences that showcase the wide range of careers and creativity within the event and media industries.
We also enjoyed connecting with fellow exhibitors, schools, and future collaborators – strengthening our links within the local STEM and education communities.
As a Yorkshire-based company, supporting events like Get up to Speed with STEM in our region is incredibly important to us. It’s about giving back to the community, inspiring future talent, and demonstrating that careers in event production, broadcasting, and tech are accessible, exciting, and impactful.
Whether we’re building a modular structure, running a live broadcast, or cheering on a student smashing a cube-building record, we’re proud to play our part.
We’re already looking forward to next year.
