Sheffield Teaching Hospitals hosted a meeting of visiting Urologists who attended Sheffield for a day long event of presentations and live surgery. Stream7 provided a live link direct from the Operating theatres to the lecture theatre so the guests could view the surgery first hand.
Two procedures were demonstrated, open cavity surgery in the morning and endoscopy in the afternoon.
This event was the first outing for our new Micro Studio Camera, the camera is around the size of a tennis ball and lightweight which allowed us to suspend the camera over the operation site producing some very high quality images from a unique angle. A camera and operator also located in the theatre was able to film other elements of the procedure.
For the Endoscopy procedure, our system was able to take a direct HD video feed from the Endoscopy Stack which was then mixed together with images from the cameras to give the attendees the complete view of the procedure.
We used our Tricaster workflow and NDI technology to send compositions of the video from our live cameras and the feeds from the medical equipment, along with the audio from the surgeon's wireless microphone to the lecture theatre. Multiple channels of audio allowed for the surgeons to describe their technique to the delegates, and the chairman to ask questions back from the Lecture Theatre.
The event ran exceptionally well, with the quality of the service from Stream7 being praised by both the organisers and the delegates. The quality of the images from the Micro camera were exceptional and the camera has now become a very useful addition to our range of cameras.
