Everywhere you turn on the internet someone is streaming their gaming setup, or an unboxing or even their new Asos shopping haul. It’s an ever present form of entertainment for today’s society and younger generation with social media sites such as Tik Tok, Twitch and Youtube all pioneering the production of live content. But how does this phenomenon link to education and in particular STEM education. Luckily for you we’re going to explore it a little bit below!
Firstly, what exactly is STEM Education? Well STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. The goal of STEM education is to equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the 21st-century workforce, where STEM-related careers are in high demand. This interaction provides them with a unique opportunity to ask questions, share their ideas and experiences, and learn from their peers. Not only that but engaging with this community can help break down traditional barriers to learning, such as socioeconomic status, gender, and race, by providing equal access to quality education to all learners which is important in the UK government’s approach to STEM education. Recently we had the pleasure of sponsoring an event promoting companies that can offer career pathways for STEM called Get Up to Speed with STEM produced by our good friends at Work-Wise. We installed a custom studio and allowed young people from a variety of different schools to learn and produce a short 5 minute TV show using our high quality broadcast equipment. We had amazing feedback from the young people and event organisers as they got to use our Tricasters, green screen, autocue system, sound desk, PTZ cameras and much more! It was a fantastic showcase for how broadcast and streaming are extremely relevant for STEM education and we hope that they are inspired to pursue the career further.
