NFL Streaming London Games

January 13, 2016
Nearly 15.2 million watched last year and Apple and Google now want to get involved

On Sunday, Oct. 25, 2015 Yahoo delivered the first-ever live stream of a season NFL game to viewers worldwide for free.

The london match between the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars was a huge success with over 15.2 million people in total watching and at least 2.4 million watching at any given moment.

The stream was provided by Yahoo and streamed on their sites including Yahoo, Yahoo Sports, Yahoo Screen and Tumblr. They were able monitise the stream by selling advertising slots to 30 plus companies for $100,000 to $200,000.

Apple and Google are now reportedly trying to secure the rights to the london contests.

This proves the value of monetising streaming sports, whether this be ad supported as above, or using a Pay Per View model where users pay a small free to watch the stream on their devices.
